Starry Night

Last night Brian told me to come outside, he wanted to show me how nice and cool the fall night was.

I followed him out the door and onto the front walk.

Barefoot on the chilled cement.

Watching my step as I went.

I was afraid I would step on a bug, spider or worse yet a worm (deathly afraid of worms).

He commented on the crisp night air.

I agreed that it felt nice as I glanced up at the sky.

It was crystal clear, the moon illuminating the sky, the stars shining bold and bright.

I was instantly reminded of the past.

I was pregnant with our first child.

He was still in school.

Separated by 400 miles.

Reunited every other weekend.

I would pace the driveway at night while talking to him on the phone.

The chilled cement underfoot, though I wore shoes.

Inhaling the crisp night air.

Gazing at the bold, bright stars.

Being comforted by the sound of his voice.

Knowing the same stars I was looking at, so beautiful, were over his head too.

Feeling peace.

  • What a lovely memory! I found myself outside barefoot this morning too but I was more concerned with snapping pics than the cold ground.
