Baby Boy
I could never have imagined the pain searing through my abdomen as that first contraction hit.
After two very similar births I thought the third would be a piece of cake. Have some mild contractions, the ones you talk and laugh through, the kind where your doctor doesn’t even think you are in labor but you surprise them by being four centimeters dilated and get to stay to have a baby. You sit around until you get too uncomfortable, only then asking for the epidural. The numbness sets in rendering you free and relaxed. Then they break your water and a bit later you push a few times and the baby slides out slimy and screaming. As far as my experience had been, giving birth was easy. Heck getting my wisdom teeth out had been much worse!
I was underneath the computer desk with a screwdriver trying to install a new ethernet card. I felt a strange pop within my belly and a slight trickle of liquid leaked from me, like I had peed my pants. Again. I lifted myself up and sure enough the carpet was saturated in one spot. I asked the girls to get me a towel and to get their dad. They didn’t quite understand why I needed the towel, but I told them not to ask questions and just do as I said. I sat on it and Brian trudged up the stairs unhappy after being woken from his nap on the couch.
“What?”
“My water broke!”
“Really?”
His frown instantly changed to a surprised smile.
I was getting ready to leave, chatting on the phone to friends when about twenty minutes later the first contraction hit. I folded over, and thought I was going to die. The pain ripped through my body in a way I had never, ever, felt before. We left with the intention of taking the girls to my parents first. More intense contractions in the car made me reconsider, so my Dad met us at the hospital.
They couldn’t figure out if my water had broken. Twice I had to scoot down. A little more, just a bit more and deal with a speculum during crazy white knuckle grasping the sides of the bed, almost passing out pain. I wait for them to take their little slide under a microscope to figure out if my water did indeed break. I vacillated between venting about having to be in triage to thinking I was going to be ripped in two. I had never felt so much pain in my life and this was my third time around!
“I’m going to die, I’m going to die.”
“Jesus, help me!”
Oh wait, I’m supposed to breathe through contractions. Just remember to breathe.
“I’m dying, I’m dying.”
“Jesus help me, I’m dying!”
The midwife on duty came back to confirm I was telling the truth, my water had in fact broken. I was taken to a room where I got my epidural. Now comfortably numb except for the minor problem of the hot spot in my hip and thigh. I felt everything in that one spot. I didn’t feel like death, but it was no picnic either. Next thing I know it’s go time. A few pushes and out he came with his one little hand up by his head.
Placed upon my chest was my beautiful son. I stared deep into his unique light brown eyes. I was no longer only a mother to girls. Alexander was finally here. This precious baby boy was mine.
Then the whole world shifted.

A year ago was Alex’s 1st birthday party!
Today he turned 2!
Alex was visited by Nana, Popi and Uncle who brought him this fun xylophone and some cupcakes!
Alex and Nana, who thinks she’s genius for giving a noise making toy that stays at our house.
Alex, his two candles in his cupcake and me wearing the same shirt I was on his 1st birthday.
Go Phillies!
Told him to blow out the candles and he just stared at them very intensely.
Sadly, the force was not strong with him…
Half way through eating he didn’t like that his hands were messy.
He wanted cleaned off.
I asked if he wanted a fork and he answered with an emphatic “Yeah!”
I cannot believe my little man is 2!
I’m beyond thankful for God blessing us with Alex!
My prayer for Alex is that he grows up knowing the Lord, following Him and loving Him with all his heart!
Happy Birthday Alex!
We love you!
The sound of crickets…
It’s been a tad bit longer than two months since I updated this blog.
I have had things to say, just haven’t taken the time to do it.
Lots of happenings around the *Q* Household.
Alex breaking his arm on Easter. Poor boy feel off a chair, at least that is the story his sisters told. I knew something serious was wrong when he didn’t want to put on his new baseball glove. He also wouldn’t hold a baseball in his right hand, would just tuck it into the crook of his elbow.
His cast looking tough, after my creative thinking. Making a stencil out of the Phillies “P” and coloring it in with a black Sharpie!
Thankfully he only had to wear it for a little over 4 weeks! He was a champ and it didn’t really affect him much at all. Though he did have to forgo wearing the new baseball glove for awhile. He had no problem throwing though!
Made a few crochet items.. A hat for Todd and Sarah’s baby (don’t have a picture).
A hat and blanket for Jason and Daphne’s baby:
And another similar blanket that I have for sale on Etsy.
In other news.. I turned 30!
Brian went all out and threw me a surprise party. Walking into the darkened house and having a ton of my friends yell surprise was very cool. I felt so loved! We had a cook-out and the kids played. My friends know me so well too. Got gift cards to Starbucks, AMC, Joanne’s and got a Twilight Saga: New Moon Wolf Pack shirt!
I’m going to be watching our neighbor’s son Cole during the summer. He is 5 and the kids love playing with him. He was practically part of the family already. It’s going to be a fun summer!
This is the girls last week of school! Yesterday we had the end of the year zoo trip. We hung out with Alannah (Brianna’s good friend) and her mom. Alannah is moving out of state next week so the girls are trying to spend a lot of time together. Cole was with us as well. The kids had a blast and we got to see the new Polar bear exhibit for the first time. Every year they get a stuffed animal from the gift shop. This year they all got polar bears.
There was a lot more going on.
Now I forget.
I should have just blogged, but such is life.
I hope to be more consistent now!
Our Labor Day Weekend!
Friday night we went to the pet store to see some puppies! Brianna had said she wanted to go so after dinner we went over to Petland. First we looked at the rabbits, I picked one up for the girls to pet, it started going crazy so I put it back. Then I let a bird hop onto my finger so they could see. We took a look at all the puppies. We picked a little fluffy puppy, not sure of the breed and took it to the little cubicle and the girls were in puppy heaven! It was all over the place, going back and forth between Brianna and Katie. And it kept nibbling on their clothes, shoes and fingers. It was cute until I picked it up and looked at it’s face and I swear it had an ewok face and all I could do was laugh at it the rest of the time. We said good bye to the animals and went home. After putting the kids to bed Brian and I watched Who’s Line, had some fun on the stairs on the way up to bed and then I fell fast asleep!
Saturday, I was up early, I couldn’t sleep after my 6am temp time. Katie got up around 7 to go potty. We went back into bed to cuddle. Then Brianna came in. Brianna and I got dressed, went to Walmart to get party stuff, got some cupcakes, tinkerbell/cars cups, tinkerbell/cars stickers, oreo mini snack bags, matchbox cars, jacks and apple juice. Went to Joanne Etc. got a bunch of foam craft stuff on sale with an extra 40% off and some blank puzzles. We got home, gave Brianna a bath and got her dressed. I jumped in the shower and got myself together. Brian and Katie were all ready to go. I made the goody “bags” Got all the craft stuff together. Loaded the van and we were off. Half way to the rec center I remembered that I had forgotten candles and a lighter. So we stopped at Kroger. I ran in, got a number 5 candle, a lighter, a bag of chex mix and 2 liter of coke and sprite. We got to the rec center, unloaded Brianna and I and all the stuff to take in, Brian and Katie parked the van. Got stuff set up and a couple minutes later in walked Hannah, Brianna’s first guest. Talked to her father, he got her changed, (it was supposed to be a pool party) and then he left. The girls started making necklaces. Then came Carrie with Lauren, Logan was at his golf lesson and was going to come late. Then in came the twins with their grandmother and then Jennifer their mom walked in. Then Deana, Conner and Brandon, Jenny, with Taylor and Aaron. After that Kelly with Griffen. All the kids did crafts and then we went to the gym, they played with the balls and we did the parachute. Then we went back to the room for cupcakes and then presents. It went pretty smoothly and 2 hours was just fine! After that we went to my parents. Katie took a nap. My Mom and I went through the JC Penney catalog, then put up the fall decorations. We left after Katie got up. She did the cutest thing, she kept creeping up on people and saying “I’m……. Going…….To……Getchoo!” And then would tickle us. She did it to Popi repeatedly. It was adorable! We left, got the kids McDonald’s and us some BW3′s wings. Brian and I had a money arguement, before, during and after I put the kids to bed. I left and went to Kelly’s and was there until 11:30..

Sunday we went to church. Came home, had some lunch. Katie took a nap. I took a nap. Brian ended up falling asleep on the couch. I woke up, made chicken linguine (grabbed the wrong box, meant to get fettucine) and alfredo sauce! It was good. Then we went to Walmart to get some ranch dip mix and some ruffles and then off to the dollar theater. We saw Cars. It was really good. The girls both got the kid’s meal, popcorn, soda and m&m’s. Katie had to pee twice during the movie, so I missed some parts. Can’t wait until it is on DVD! Got the kids to bed and brian and I ate nutcones and watched an epi of smallville. Then up to bed and had some fun
Monday we had a slow day, my temp was still up, so Brian and I decided that I should go get a test. I went and got one at Walmart along with some cream cheese. Then stopped at Tim Horton’s for donuts and bagel. Had some breakfast when I got home. Did things around the house. Took the test. Brian went in to look at it and it was a bum test, there was no control line. There was nothing. So he wanted me to get another one. I decided no, I’d wait it out. I went in to watch tv and I looked at it again and the control line was there and it looked faint positive. I showed it to Brian, he saw it too. Then he wanted me to get another one. I said I would wait. Then when we looked again it was just negative. So I said I was definitely waiting. I ended up spotting a bit. We had dinner at my parents, the girls played in the pool. It was nice. Then we got home and hung out I think. I can’t remember LOL. I know once the girls were in bed we watched some TV about the Dugger family and then some of the shrinking woman. I went online for a bit and then went to bed.
