My son’s enthusiasm for baseball is just fascinating.

Why you may ask, because he has been obsessed since he was born!

Okay, perhaps we had a little something to do with his wardrobe choices early on, but the trend has not only stuck, it’s become his life.

He loves watching, playing, wearing and talking baseball.

He has more baseball bats and baseballs than we know what to do with because every time we are in a store and he sets his eyes on a shiny new bat I can’t help but buy it for him. I think of it as an investment in his future and mine, I mean when he makes the big bucks he’ll for sure buy me a dream home!

Heck, the kid broke his arm at the age of two and the reason I knew something was wrong was because he refused to put on his brand new baseball glove. Didn’t stop him from playing though..

Alex started t-ball this year.

Every Saturday, unless it rained, we went off to t-ball with a very excited little boy, holding his glove, wearing a big dazzling grin, chattering up a storm about how he was playing t-ball that day.

His team was the Rangers. Being huge Phillies fans we just had to deal. He did wear his shirt and hat with pride. He also enjoyed playing with his friend Braelyn!

His favorite part was batting, and the poor kid only got to do 1 inning a game, but he loved every second of it!

Plus, and I can’t believe I don’t have pictures of this, he would slide at every base, including 1st!

Alex has acquired his first of many trophies.

We’ll be sure to hang on to it, he might want it on the same shelf as his World Series ring one day!

Congrats on a wonderful season Alex!

I am very proud of you!

Had to throw this one in too because I just love it..

Yep, definitely the future of baseball right there.

He was born to play!

Apparently I use “adult” language when speaking with my soon to be three year old.

We were dining at Sunny Side (or is it Street?) Cafe for lunch.

Alex was coloring his kids menu with the traditional red, blue, green and yellow crayons.

I noticed that his blue crayon was going to be snapped in half if he continued to draw the way he was.

My words of wisdom:

“Alex, don’t hold your crayon like that. You are going to break it.”

Alex:

“What?”

Me:

“You’re putting too much pressure on the center of that crayon and you are going to snap it like a twig.”

Alex:

“What?”

My Mom:

“Why do you use words like that with him? He has no idea what you are saying.”

Me:

“I don’t know. I never really thought about it.

Alex:

“What?”

Me:

“Nothing buddy. I like your picture.”

I ooh and ahh over our babies. Call them little pet names and adopt their baby talk words as my own. I still say I’m going “nigh-nigh” and I will forever probably say I need to go “potty” while I’m in the presence of grown adults with no children in sight.

But..

When my children start speaking full sentences I start talking to them like they too are my age. Thankfully my swearing is at a minimum, unless you count “crap” and “pissed off”, I say those phrases A LOT.

I will go into lengthy explanations and sometimes I see their eyes glaze over and know that I’ve “lost” them but it’s almost like I have no clue on how to make it simple and easy.

Am I the only one who speaks in “adult” sentences when speaking to their children?

And how many more “quotation” marks can I use in a post?

At least I took a breather on the “exclamations”, I know I tend to use an over abundance of those little bats and balls (at least that is what Alex thinks they are!!!!!!!!!

A group of powerful storms blew through Central Columbus last night, though I slept soundly, peacefully. Wind and rain lashed just outside the walls of my bedroom while I was wrapped in a dream.

A loud boom of thunder shook the house at it’s foundation, jerking me from an adventure now outside of reality, blurred at the edges. Hard to recall.

No power.

The children filed into the room, smallest to largest with battery operated princess and Tinkerbell candles to guide their way.

Alex now snuggled up into my curves, warm with fever and sucking furiously on his binky. Katie infiltrating a space between Brian and I, laying her head on my side while Brianna took to the end of the bed.

They chattered about the thunder waking them from their dreams and asked if there would be school in the morning, disappointed when our answer was yes.

It was eerily quiet, the thunder and lightening had vanished leaving the rain softly rapping on the window.

The girls were sent back to bed to cuddle with each other after the promise of us waking them if the weather turned more serious. Alex was given a dose of medicine to reduce his fever and more snuggle time with me.

We all burrowed deep under the covers to find sleep once more.

Yet it evaded my grasp, slow night terrors crept in trying to gain entrance to my thoughts, the unique rush of ethereal sound to my ears, my heart and breath seized as I fervently prayed to be released from it’s grip.

One.

Two.

Three assaults.

The adventurous dream of before slowly came back into focus.

Freedom.
