Heaven and The Rapture???????

We (my Dad, Mom and I) were talking about Heaven and Jesus Rapturing the Church on Christmas..

Now, I had never really looked at Revelation before.. Quite frankly, it scares me! I read about half of it on Christmas..

What happens when we die??? Do we go straight to heaven or do we wait until Jesus raptures the church?????

I’m going to ask Tom (our pastor) about this.. My Dad is going to ask his pastor too..

But.. I thought that you went up to heaven.. then I read something or heard something (can’t remember) and it had something to do with this: When Jesus Rapture’s the Church all who are going up to heaven both alive and already dead go up with Him..

If that is the case, what are the people who are already dead doing right now?? Waiting??

If anyone knows, please shed some light on this.. I’m so confused!

  1. I’m no help because I can’t figure it out myself. One place I read (can’t remember verses I’ll have to try to find it again) made it sound like to me that we just slept until Jesus came and then we all went up together, living and deceased. However I heard a big thing on the christian station we listen to were that preacher referred to verses that say you immediately go to heaven and shows examples. I’ll look for those to so you can see what you think. I like to think that we go to heaven immediately but don’t know the scriptures to back it up. I would love to know what your pastor says about it.

  2. I looked through the index in my bibles and looked up verses they both pointed too. From those it seems to say that we will sleep until Jesus comes back for us, at least that’s how I’m reading it.

    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NIV)
Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep with him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left tillthe coming of the Lord, will certaintly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

    John 14: 2-3 (NIV)
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may be where I am.

Both of my study bibles also reference 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 but I have to go make supper so I don’t have time to type it all out. I just wanted to let you know where I got my thoughts from.

  3. Thank you so much for the scriptures.. I think that is what it is saying as well.. My pastor still hasn’t gotten back to me.. I’ll let you know what he says when he does!
